Dayton is the county seat in southwestern Ohio located in Montgomery County on the Great Miami River. Dayton was victim to flooding until dams were constructed in the early 20th century. The city was named after a founding father named Jonathan Dayton.

Another awe-inspiring place to visit in Dayton is The Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum. It is 200 acres of one of the oldest "garden" cemeteries in the United States. More than 3,000 trees sweep over the rolling hills, many of which are more than a century old. It became a place of refuge during the 1913 flood. It is listed in the National Register of Historical Places for the Romanesque gateway, office, and chapel located in the cemetery. All the monuments memorialize people who helped shaped the nation and the city of Dayton. The monuments range from boulders to statues and temples. More than 100,000 bodies reside in this final resting place.
