Come and Enjoy the High Life in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa is the county seat of Tulsa County and is located on the Arkansas River in Oklahoma. There are two different opinions on how Tulsa received its name. It either received its name after a branch of the Creek Indian Tribe or a Creek town in Alabama.

Oklahoma's rolling green hills is home to this oil boomtown with a rich city character. Tourists will fall in love with Tulsa and all it has to offer.

Tulsa History

From 1830 to 1882, the city was Indian Territory. Railroads were introduced to Tulsa in 1882, helping to build the cattle business. Indian land decreased as settlers pushed onward. Between 1901 and 1907, the city discovered oil and became the center of the oil field. In 1905, a very large supply of black gold was struck and would eventually be responsible for making Tulsa one of the leading petroleum producing areas in the nation!

Tulsa finally received statehood in 1907. A second oil boom occurred between 1915 and 1930 when another surge was discovered. This is what put Tulsa on the map as the "Oil Capital of the World." That is until the oil bust in 1982, and the title was turned over to Houston.
