Take a Tour of Toledo, Ohio

Toledo is the county seat of Lucas County in Ohio and is located at the mouth of the Maumee River on Lake Erie. The city was developed as a shipping point for grain and agricultural-product-laden canal boats. Toledo obtained its name after a city in Spain.

European-Americans originally settled Toledo in 1794. Following the War of 1812, many of the settlers abandoned the area. In 1817, people began to settle in the area once again and joined with inhabitants of a river settlement to form what is today called Toledo. From 1835 to 1836, there was a conflict between Ohio and Michigan Territory (Toledo War). The battle was over a portion of land that bordered Indiana, and sat along Lake Erie.
