Greenville is the county seat of Greenville County and is located on the Reedy River in the Blue Ridge foothills of South Carolina. The city was named after Nathanael Greene, who was a Revolutionary War hero.
Following the treaty of 1763, the Greenville area had originally became the protected territory of the Cherokee Indian nation. White men were not allowed onto the property.
