In today’s busy world, most adults find it difficult to find the time to read, yet reading is the best way to escape from the stress of modern life! We know we want our children to be readers, and we encourage them to read throughout their lives, yet we rarely open a book ourselves. We are not setting an example for our children in our actions, simply because our lives are so busy!

Readers are people who are never bored. When you have a book in hand, you have the ability to escape for a few moments into a world far different than your own. And with a library in almost every town, there is no end to the availability of books, yet we as adults rarely read. There are some simple ideas you can use to incorporate reading into your lifestyle. When you do, you will be a happier person. You just might find that you are more relaxed as well!

Make reading a priority. Set aside a few moments each day to spend with a book, magazine, or newspaper. Perhaps you need to turn of the television ten minutes earlier each night to accomplish this. Many people find that reading a chapter in a good book before heading to bed helps them relax and unwind after a long day. Instead of falling asleep worrying about your work, you can fall asleep basking in the journey your book takes you on.

When you go on vacation, do not take work with you. Take a few good books, and while you are traveling use that time to catch up on your reading. An airplane is the perfect location for some quality reading time. There are few distractions, and you cannot go anywhere, so you can enjoy your book.

Consider taking a day off from the television. Unplug the TV and encourage everyone in your family to read during the time when they would normally be watching the tube. Then take the initiative to curl up with your favorite novel. Even if some members of the family choose to do another activity, you have still set the example, and caught up on your reading time at the same time.

The point is, you can find the time to read if you make it a priority, and reading is the most rewarding hobby you can have. It provides stress relief and stimulates your creativity, stretching your mind and imagination. When you finish reading, you will feel rejuvenated and refreshed, and ready to face the challenges of your daily life. And a good fiction book is as entertaining as any television show!
