Unusual City Names in Texas - Texas is famous for many things, not least of which are the unusual city names you'll find there. Here are some examples, and how the names came to be.

Ding Dong is so named because it is located in Bell County. The town of Bigfoot isn't named after a hairy, man-like creature; rather it was named for a former resident, William Wallace, who was nicknamed "Bigfoot" due to his shoe size. Earth was intended to be named Good Earth, but a mistake at the post office led to the dropping of the word "good". Gun Barrel City is proud of it's right to bear arms, with it's motto of "We Shoot Straight With You".

Looneyville is a community named after John Looney, a successful shopkeeper who resided there. Happy is so named because thirsty cowboys were, well, happy to find a source of water there. And Study Butte was also named for a resident; Will Study, who managed the mercury mine.
