Omaha is the county seat of Douglas County located on the banks of the Missouri River in Nebraska.  The city received its name after the Omaha Indian tribe.  The word Omaha means "against the current."  The tribe arrived in the 1700s from the south, and would have had to travel against the Missouri River's current in order to reach the northern destination.  Omaha is a large city filled with the friendliest people you'll ever meet. In 1860, the Union Pacific Railroad was constructed in Omaha, and the city became a center for transportation.  More recently, it has become a large hub for telecommunications.  Omaha is the industrial and commercial center of Nebraska.

The population of Omaha was estimated to be 404,267 in 2003.  Cities located near Omaha are Boys Town, La Vista, Papillion, Ralston, and Carter Lake, IA.  Places of higher education offered in Omaha include the University of Nebraska, Creighton University, Clarkson College, College of Saint Mary, and Grace University.

Well-known residents that have lived in Omaha are the wealthy investor Warren Buffet, actor Marlon Brando, black activist Malcolm X, and actress Swoozie Kurtz.  The city was also the filming location for "The Indian Runner," "Citizen Truth," and "About Schmidt."  Omaha's sports teams include (AHL) Ak-Sar-Ben and (Minor League Baseball) Royals.

The FunPlex (http://www.fun-plex.com) is Omaha's amusement and water park.  It contains two water slides, kiddie rides, a wave pool, go-carts, the Lazzy River, a Ferris Wheel, and much more.  This attraction is sure to bring a day full of fun and excitement suitable for the entire family.

The Omaha Music Hall is a casual theatrical venue hosting several Broadway productions, comedy shows, and concerts.  It has a seating capacity of 2,453 persons.
